Background of the Study
Wamba Local Government Area (LGA) in Nasarawa State has long been a region grappling with ethnic tensions and conflicts, primarily due to its diverse demographic composition. The area is home to various ethnic groups, and clashes over resources, land, and political power have often led to violent confrontations. Geopolitical strategies—ranging from local governance frameworks to regional interventions—have been deployed to address these conflicts. However, these strategies' effectiveness in managing ethnic conflict remains under-researched, particularly in the context of how such dynamics can be shaped or mitigated through political negotiations, security measures, and cultural dialogue (Olowu & Danjuma, 2024). This study aims to evaluate the geopolitical strategies employed in Wamba LGA, analyzing their successes and limitations in managing ethnic conflicts and fostering peaceful coexistence among the diverse groups.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Ethnic conflicts in Wamba LGA have resulted in significant loss of life, displacement, and socio-economic disruptions, with no lasting peace being achieved. The geopolitical strategies used by local, state, and federal actors, including the implementation of security operations, community-based conflict resolution, and inter-ethnic dialogue, have shown mixed results. The effectiveness of these strategies in mitigating ethnic tensions needs to be critically assessed to inform future interventions and policy developments.
